Teaching and Learning in a Pandemic

2020 is not the year any of us thought it would be. It was supposed to be a year that would be much like all of the others - the way it has always been. In a normal year, some teachers might get Chromebooks, some might start using Google Classroom but the need to take lessons from analog to digital would not be something pressing and many teachers would stick with the status quo.. But 2020 did not turn out the way all other years have gone. It brought great change. A shift that only a global pandemic could bring. Even with all of the devastation of a global pandemic - it also brought transformation, a racial mia copa and a world where ' Zoom" is now a household word.
There is so much that has happened in the education world because of this global pandemic. For most educators, school was completely disrupted. Teachers had to quickly take lessons from analog to digital and some were not prepared to do so. What is so beautiful is that most of those teachers today, at the end of the year, have seen the power of digital pedagogies and never wish to return to outdated teaching methods.
Students who switched from in person classrooms to remote learning became digitally fluent learners. Most of them are now ready for the digital workforce in a way they might not have been before.
With every disruption there is transformation. It is time to unpack that disruption - the good, the bad and the true innovative spirit of the educators who have become true heroes.
